Francisco Serrano, a candidate for Bowling Green City Commissioner, speaks to the crowd of Black Lives Matter supporters in Circus Square Park on Sept. 26, 2020. Serrano included a personal connection in his speech by reflecting back on 5-year-old Burt Brumett who was killed in a car accident on Scott Way here in Bowling Green in the 80s. Brumettโ€™s mother fought tirelessly to have a stoplight placed in that location but to no avail resulting in the death of Serranoโ€™s cousin who was hit by a car in the same spot on March 30, 2016. โ€œChange did not happen for their family and for this community,โ€ Serrano said, โ€œAt the end of the day these are our lives we are fighting for.โ€
