Former WKU volleyball star Sydney Engle is joining the WKU soccer team as a goalkeeper, the program announced Friday.

If Engle plays in a game for the Lady Toppers, she will be the first student athlete to compete in both volleyball and women’s soccer.

Engle, a three-time second-team All-Conference USA performer in volleyball, ranks 10th all-time in both matches played and career sets in WKU history. Engle finished her volleyball career with 925 kills, 390 assists, 80 aces, 835 digs and 272 blocks.

She also earned five C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors, and was named to the All-Region team following her senior season.

The Lady Toppers were down to only one goalkeeper after an injury to Anne-Marie Ulliac in the season. Engle will serve as the backup to current starter Bailee Witt.
