WKU implementing clear bag policy for football season

WKU has become the latest school to implement a clear bag policy for home football games, as the school announced Tuesday that it would implement the safety measure in Houchens-Smith Stadium for the upcoming season.

The new policy will limit baggage items allowed into the stadium. On the approved list are clear tote bags that aren’t larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″, plastic zip-top bags no larger than one gallon, clutch purses no larger than 4.5 inches-by-6.5 inches, and seat cushions without pockets no larger than 16 inches.

Here are the prohibited items on the revised policy:

  • Briefcases
  • Camera bags
  • Backpacks
  • Drawstring bags
  • Fanny packs
  • Mesh bags
  • Duffel bags
  • Oversized totes
  • Tinted or textured bags
  • Purses
  • Diaper bags
  • Printed pattern plastic bags
  • Reusable grocery tote bags

The Hilltopper football program isn’t the first to implement this policy. The SEC made the move last year to implement a clear bag policy across the conference, and the NFL also has a clear policy for all of its stadiums.

WKU is providing free, WKU-approved clear tote bags to fans. They can be picked up from the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation, or at the WKU Ticket Office in Diddle Arena on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m (while supplies last).
