A new tax law passed by the state of Kentucky will cause an increase in ticket prices to WKU sporting events.

The Kentucky Department of Revenue is implementing a new 6-percent sales tax on admission to events hosted by non-profit organizations. This includes athletic events for universities. The tax was put in effect Monday at the start of the new fiscal year.

WKU athletics confirmed the ticket price increase via a press release.

The new law will affect both single-game and season ticket prices, but purchases made before Monday will not be affected, the press release said. The new law will not affect the cost of parking or donations.

The university is currently in the process of updating the cost of tickets in order to reflect the addition of the tax.
