WKU senior named to 2018 Kentucky Derby Festival Royal Court

Katie Bouchard, an Owensboro senior, was one of the five women selected to serve as a Princess in the 2018 Kentucky Derby Festival Royal Court, the festival said in a press release. 

Bouchard is a social work major, a Kentucky Colonel, is on the Dean’s List and has received the College of Health and Human Services Outstanding Academic Achievement Award. 

She is also the youngest board member of Cinderella’s Closet of Western Kentucky, an organization which provides “formal wear to girls who could not otherwise afford to attend prom.” She is also trained in the state dance of Kentucky, which is clogging

Bouchard, along with the four others, will act as ambassadors for the 2018 festival, attending nearly 70 events over a two-week period. 

According to the press release, one of the five will be crowned the Derby Festival Queen, determined by a wheel spin, at the annual Fillies Derby Ball on April 14. Each woman will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
