Gianna Dowell, 22, of Evansville, In., wanted to have an “edgy hairstyle.” She realizes not many females have short hair; the sides and back of her hair is shaved. “I get looked at a little weird sometimes, but I like being different,” Dowell said. As for discrimination in the workplace, she feels a little bit safer because she works more in the art department. “Art people don’t really care,” she said “I just hope it doesn’t happen to me.” Although she hasn’t experienced it, Dowell has had friends that were dread heads not get internships certain places, because they refused to cut their hair.
