New dining option selected to replace Popeyes

The Den by Denny’s will replace both Popeyes and Freshens after Popeyes announced its departure from college campuses, WKU officials said Thursday.

The restaurant is set to open in August said Mike Reagle, Assistant Vice President of Housing & Residence Life. The menu will feature a range of food options that are both sit-down dining style and grab and go.

Reagle said The Den will reach more students because of the variety and keeps the campus competitive.

Reagle said the removal of Freshens was more cost efficient for the university. He explained that more intensive construction would need to be done in order to fit The Den only where Popeyes was.

Reagle said students living in residence halls near The Den’s new location were surveyed before choosing the restaurant. He explained that students wanted more late night options and something with several options, which The Den provides.

“I’m excited about the new look,” Reagle said.
