A lot of my self love comes from my faith in God. Understanding He made me perfect in height, color and more. So the whole melanin movement, that’s what it is to me, a movement I love it because it’s saying hey you are beautiful all the way dark or all the way bright. Don’t get it twisted though having dark skin isn’t a fad. Even when this “wave” settles my dark sisters and brothers are beautiful. You are designed with magic. Literally your skin has protectants, like what! My dark skin is who I am. This is me and I’ve fallen in love with that. I don’t have to be ideal to anyone in society I just have to love who I am,” Louisville senior Shantel Pettway,22, stated.
