Campus faces two facilities issues Friday morning

WKU faced several complications on campus Friday morning near Cherry Hall and at the Subway located in Bates-Runner Hall.

Subway was closed on Friday morning. Originally, it was announced that they would be closed until further notice “for safety purposes,” but was reopened at 10:30 a.m., according to the WKU Restaurant Group’s Twitter.

Assistant vice president of auxiliary services Gary Mezaros said that the restaurant was closed due to a water leak on campus.

“Whenever there is a broken water pipe, we always have to close affected restaurants for safety,” he said.

There were also reports of excessive water near Cherry Hall.

Bowling Green Municipal Utilities was scheduled to repair a water main leak on State Street near Hardin Planetarium, according to a press release from BGMU. The work was scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., but Russell said it might have been related.

Russell said that he knew BGMU was doing “some underground work in that area,” and the water may have been related to that.

“I don’t know any of the details, other than they’re going to have it fixed this weekend,” Russell said.
