Building A Craft

9 year old Jack Sternberg was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of 2. Like many Autistic Spectrum children Jack struggles to socialize and needs to be taught social graces that develop over time in others.

Once a week for 8 weeks Jack attended the Minecraft Club. The Minecraft Club was established with the intention of addressing concerns about children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Through the use of the Minecraft video game, the club uses this special interest alongside social skills training to address the social difficulties that come along with having an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

“I want to see him socialize independently,” said Jacks mother, Dr. Elizabeth Sternberg.”I want him to have friends and not be scared in groups and know how to approach people. Those are all things a lot of kids learn as they grow up that is a little bit harder for him to do.”
