Memphis Senior Lyndsey Pender has worn her hair natural for 3 years since arriving at WKU. Reflecting on how black hair has changed overtime Pender points out that black hair changes as the culture changes. “I do think that hair is significant to black culture. I don’t think it’s just black culture. I think that hair is a significant thing based on the culture your in.” said Pender, “I think it almost defines the significance. Look at just American history and see the way that hair and hairstyles have evolved. Hair evolves in culture in America overall, and black culture as a subset of American culture, it evolves the same way too.” Bria Granville/HERALD
