The WKU Lady Topper softball team defeated Texas State twice on Friday, 1-0 and 6-1 respectively, to earn its 10th and 11th victory in Sun Belt Conference play this season.

Overall the team is 31-14-1 and has won seven of its last eight games.

Game one of the doubleheader featured a defensive struggle as the two teams went into the seventh and final inning deadlocked at zero.

However, with one out and nobody one base, sophomore infielder Brooke Holloway broke the tie with a solo home run, the lone run of the game for either team.

The two teams only had nine hits between them in the first game of the series.

Senior pitcher Emily Rousseau went the distance in the win, her 16th of the year, allowing five hits and no runs while striking out five.

The second game of the evening saw a lot more offensive production as the Lady Toppers took the game 6-1.

WKU out-hit its opponents eight to six in the game.

The Bobcats (21-26, 4-10 SBC) opened the scoring in the first frame, scoring on an illegal pitch. From there thought it was all WKU, scoring one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh.

Junior infielder Preslie Cruce went 2-for-4 at the plate in the game including a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Fellow classmate and outfielder Shawna Sadler had a good day at the plate in game two recording three hits including a two RBI triple in the seventh inning.

Freshman Hannah Miniard earned her 13th win on the mound this season allowing six hits and one run while striking out eight Bobcat batters.

The third and final game of the series will be Saturday at noon.
