Home runs, an extra inning, and a no-hitter highlighted the WKU Lady Topper Softball teams’ doubleheader sweep of Texas Arlington Saturday on the road.

The Lady Toppers hit four home runs over the course of the two games as they took game one 8-5 in eight innings and the second game 8-0 behind a no-hitter from freshman pitcher Hannah Miniard.

The no-hitter is the second time in the last three conference games that the WKU pitcher has thrown a no-hitter. Senior Emily Rousseau had the other one last Sunday against Troy in a 5-0 win.

With the wins, WKU improved to 22-10-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Sun Belt Conference.

In the first game, three different Lady Toppers, Kelsie Mattox, Amanda Thomas, and Preslie Cruce, hit a home run.

The team played its second straight extra innings game as they defeated Murray State in eight innings on Wednesday. Three runs in the eighth inning would propel WKU to victory 8-5.

Rousseau (12-7) earned the win as she pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out five.

Cruce’s home run was a two run shot in the eighth inning to break the 5-5 tie. Later in the frame, Mattox hit an RBI double to tack on another run to secure the win.

In the second game, four different Lady Toppers tallied two hits in the game, including Cruce and Thomas.

The fourth home run of the day came off the bat of sophomore infielder Brooke Holloway in the fifth inning to give WKU a 4-0 advantage.

Miniard (10-3) earned her first career no hitter going the distance in game two as she walked four batters and struck out nine.

WKU will go for the sweep Sunday starting at noon.
