WKU senior right handed pitcher Jake Thompson is the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing seven scoreless innings in the Toppers’ 1-0 victory over Illinois.

The 1-0 victory Sunday capped a series sweep of the Illini and marked WKU’s ninth straight win at Nick Denes Field.

Thompson only allowed two hits in the second inning, and nothing more from there on out.

The Shawnee, Kan. native recorded seven strikeouts in the win, six coming between the fourth and sixth innings.

Thompson has only allowed a conference-low two earned runs on the year and his 0.81 ERA ranks second among qualifying pitchers in the Sun Belt.

Thompson and the Toppers prepare for a five-game road swing through the Peach State today, starting with a two-game stay at Georgia from the Southeastern Conference.

WKU then moves into its first conference road test at Georgia State in Atlanta Mar. 14-16.
