The Lady Toppers picked up their fifth win in six games with a 68-63 victory at Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday night.

Junior forward Chastity Gooch led the way for WKU (13-5, 5-2 Sun Belt Conference) with 22 points and 11 rebounds against the Ragin’ Cajuns (10-8, 3-4 Sun Belt), boosting her average to 23 points and 8.7 rebounds in seven Sun Belt Conference games this season. Redshirt freshman Kendall Noble added a career-best 22 points after scoring 20 against Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday.

Gooch was the go-to offensive option for the Lady Toppers early, scoring 10 of the team’s 19 points through the first nine minutes. The 6-foot forward tallied 14 points on 87 percent shooting in the first half as WKU and ULL headed into halftime knotted at 29.

The Lady Toppers used timely three-pointers from sophomore guard Micah Jones and senior guard Chaney Means to outlast ULL in the second half.

Jones nailed two of her three triples with 12:50 left to give WKU a 42-37 advantage.  Jones came into the game as the conference’s second-best three-point shooter at 54.5 percent behind South Alabama’s Rachel Cumbo.

Means extended the Lady Topper lead back to five with a corner three-point field goal after ULL went on an 8-2 run.

WKU gained a double-digit lead behind another three-pointer from Jones with 3:23 left and sunk clutch free throws to solidify the win. The Lady Toppers made 20 of their 25 free throw attempts.

ULL’s 63 points marked the third-best defensive effort by WKU this season. The Lady Toppers came into the game giving up just 63.5 points per game in conference play, good for second in the league.

WKU hosts UT-Arlington on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. CT. The Mavericks own the conference’s worst scoring margin (-10.2) while the Lady Toppers lead the Sun Belt with a margin of 9.3.
