While senior linebacker Andrew Jackson serves an indefinite suspension for violating team rules, the other WKU linebackers won’t be in unfamiliar company on the field.

Sophomore Daqual Randall will start in place of Jackson when the Toppers play Georgia State in Atlanta Saturday.

Randall earned his first start against South Alabama this season and has amassed eight tackles in five games.

Coach Bobby Petrino said Randall’s inexperience this year worries him a bit, but believes he’ll be prepared for Saturday.

“I think he’ll play well,” Petrino said. “He’s a good football player, he’s got great instincts. I worry a little bit about his conditioning because he hasn’t played as much as everybody else throughout the year, so he’s worked hard on that. He’s smart, he knows the defense and he’s a physical player. Hopefully he’ll come out and play well for us.”

Jackson did not travel with the team to Atlanta and will have an opportunity to work his way back on the team in time for the Army game next Saturday. Jackson ranks second on the team with 59 tackles through eight games.
