WKU student drowns in Barren River

Arendtsville, Penn. student Adam Smelser was found dead Thursday morning after having been missing since Sunday afternoon.
Smelser was last seen in Barren River being swept under the water by EMT’s who had been called to help him.
Warren County Deputy Coroner Dwayne Lawrence said Smelser was pronounced dead on the scene at Barren River at 11 a.m. Thursday morning. Â No autopsy was performed.
“There was no need to perform one [an autopsy] because it was a witnessed drowning,” Lawrence said.
A Facebook page for family and friends to share pictures and memories of Smelser has been created and currently has 3,199 likes.
