Stutsman named Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Week

The Sun Belt Conference announced Monday that senior Melanie Stutsman has earned Conference Setter of the Week honors after her performance in the first week of the season.

Stutsman and the Lady Toppers boast a 2-1 record after winning a pair of games this weekend at the Mortar Board Premier hosted by Purdue.

She helped the team to a hitting percentage of .472 in the teams first game of the season against Alabama A&M. In the game, she also recorded 31 assists as the team swept A&M 3-0.

The next game the Lady Toppers fell to No. 4 Southern California by a score of 3-0. However, Stutsman tallied the teams first double-double of the season with 25 assists and 10 digs.

In the final game of the tournament, a five-set thriller against host Purdue, the No. 16 team in the nation, Stutsman recorded 45 assists, eight digs, and three service aces. Overall, she had six blocks at Purdue, which is second on the team, and had seven service aces during the first weekend of play, which is one of the best marks in the conference.

Stutsman and the Lady Toppers will be back in action Tuesday night against Belmont at 7 p.m. in Diddle Arena. The team will then travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for the Florida State Invitational.
