Despite going 3-1 over the course of the week, the Lady Topper volleyball team has fallen out of the American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 rankings.

For the second straight week, WKU has fallen in the rankings, going from 16th to 21st a week ago and now out of the rankings completely, ending a 14-week streak of being featured in the rankings.

Two of the Lady Toppers’ three wins last week were sweeps, including a sweep of Cincinnati Sept. 10. WKU then hosted the WKU Invitational this past weekend, a tournament in which they went 2-1 and earned second place.

The team started play Friday night against Virginia. WKU came from behind to win the first set, but ultimately dropped the second set before taking sets three and four to win the match 3-1.

However, the next day the Lady Toppers were swept by Ohio, which eventually took home first place in the tournament.

Before the game, Ohio had a 1-1 record against teams in the top 25 this season. After winning all three of their games this weekend, the Lady Bobcats (8-1) are featured in this weeks AVCA polls at No. 24.

In the final game of the Invitational, WKU swept UNLV 3-0.

The Lady Toppers have already played five teams in the top 25 this year, including Ohio, and are 1-4 against those teams. Overall, the WKU is 7-4 on the season, including a 4-1 mark at home, 1-1 on the road, and  2-2 on neutral courts.

This weekend, WKU will be traveling to Dayton, Ohio, for the Flyer Classic. Throughout the weekend, WKU will be playing Dayton, Western Michigan, and Wright State.

The last time WKU and Dayton played, the Flyers were No. 10 and WKU won the match 3-1. The Lady Toppers are 0-1 against Western Michigan and 1-4 against Wright State in program history.
