The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and WKU Campus and Community Events have announced an “important economic development announcement” along with a groundbreaking ceremony will occur on today at 4 p.m. behind the Auguenstein Alumni Center.

The Alumni Center, which opened in April, is considered to be the focal point of Alumni Square which will connect WKU’s campus to downtown Bowling Green.

Kathryn Costello, Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, said in February that the completion of Alumni Square will make the downtown area of Bowling Green more appealing to business and residential interests.

Although there is no official word on what the important economic development will be, Costello said in February a café and hotel were “planned and expected” to be a part of the Alumni Square, but that the construction deals were not yet finalized.

A reception will follow the announcement.
