WKU Police arrested the sports editor of the College Heights Herald for DUI and careless driving in the early morning of July 21.

Louisville senior Lucas Aulbach, 21, was pulled over by WKUPD after being seen repeatedly drifting into the opposite lane of traffic while driving on Russellville Road at about 3:12 a.m, according to police reports. According to the report, Aulbach blew a 0.09 blood alcohol content percentage.

His bond was set at $300. He appeared in court on Aug. 13 and plead guilty.

This will be Aulbach’s seventh semester working at the Herald.

“The actions I took in July were wrong and inexcusable and I want to apologize to everyone that I have affected,” Aulbach said. “I made a terrible mistake and while I’m glad no one was hurt, I accept the consequences and hope to learn from this experience moving forward.”

Michael McKay, editor-in-chief of the Herald, said the coverage of Aulbach’s arrest is necessary for the sake of transparency at the Herald, especially in light of coverage of other arrests recently reported.

“The College Heights Herald holds our employees to the same standard that we hold other public figures on campus to,” McKay said. “We are thankful Lucas did not harm himself or others, and we hope to help him to move past the incident.”
