WKU Homecoming 2013 theme to be “Bright Lights, Red City”

“Bright Lights, Red City” will be the theme for Homecoming 2013 when WKU faces Troy on Oct. 26.

The Homecoming committee selected the theme out of nearly 30 ideas, alumni programming director Ginny Hensley said.

Hensley said the homecoming theme links perfectly with the new theme of the football team.

“It really ties in to our football theme for the season, which is It’s Show Time,” Hensley said. “I think our goal every year is to paint this entire town Hilltopper red. So I think you’ll see anything from big city themes to Broadway shows, to Hollywood – I think this could be taken from a lot of different angles.”

University departments and organizations have until July 15 to submit their homecoming events in the WKU Spirit magazine.

This year’s homecoming theme comes out later than the usual end of May announcement.  Hensley said it’s all been because of the building of the Augestein Alumni Center.

“We’re just a little bit behind on everything,” Hensley said. “It’s just that the timing of it was off. Getting us in this building, we just didn’t get together collectively as a group until a little later this year.”

Hensley said students and alumni can expect the Alumni Center to have a lot involvement in homecoming festivities.

“We’re going to have more activities associated with this new building,” Hensley said. “There is going to be more tailgating. There are going to be special alumni member activities on game day and everyone will have the chance to purchase burgers outside. The atmosphere will be up here at the Alumni Center as well as near the stadium.”
