WKU selects Spirit Masters for 2013-14 academic year

WKU has selected 16 new Spirit Masters for the 2013-14 academic year.

These 16 new members will replace the heavy senior class that graduated in May.

Trip Carpenter, who succeeds Alex Fahnders as the chair of the organization, said as the 16 seniors have left, the Spirit Masters will have to replace many roles as well.

“There are a lot of different personalities that have left,” Carpenter said. “It’s hard to replace an individual, but we have a lot of good personality coming in, so I think there will be a good balance in the group.

“There are different committee chairs like the social, historian, bylaws and public relations that these new personalities are going to have to work to fill, but I’m confident they’ll do well.”

The Spirit Master constitution states that members are the “official ambassadors of Western Kentucky University.

As the chair of the Spirit Masters, Carpenter said Fahnders, who was also his big brother in Phi Gamma Delta, emphasized to keep spirits high amongst the group and keep them aware that they are ambassadors of WKU.

“You have to remind them why they became a Spirit Master,” Carpenter said. “It comes from a passion we have to serve the university. He reminded me to make sure people always remember that.”
