Two WKU football players have made the 2013 College Football Performance Awards trophy watch list.

Junior Jonathan Dowling was selected to the defensive back watch list and senior Andrew Jackson represents WKU on the linebacker watch list.

CFPA recipients are chosen based on scientific rankings of the extent to which individual player increases the overall effectiveness of their team.

In Dowling’s first season with WKU, he racked up a team high-high six interceptions while notching 68 tackles, earning him first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors.

Jackson added to his already stellar career as a Hilltopper in recording a team high 122 tackles in 2012. Jackson was named first-team All-Sun Belt Conference for the second year in a row.  The linebacker’s 17.5 tackles for loss was second on the team behind Quanterus Smith’s 18.5.

Players eligibile for CFPA awards are not preemptively eliminated from consideration of the awards and are awarded by their respective positions.

Notable trophy recipients in 2012 include defensive lineman from South Carolina Jadeveon Clowney, and BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy, the CFPA Defensive Performer of the Year.

The 2013 CFPA recipients will be announced Jan. 8, 2014.
