UPDATE: WKUPD cruiser involved in accident

A WKU Police Department cruiser was involved in an accident late Saturday night.

The accident occurred at around 11 p.m. on Normal Drive near Craven’s Library, WKUPD public information officer Mandi Johnson said.

A 2003 Chevy Trail Blazer traveling south in the rain on State Street collided with the police cruiser of WKUPD Officer Brandon Bryan as he traveled north. The owner of the Trail Blazer said after the incident he was “going a little too fast and hydro planed,” according to the police report. The driver then overcorrected and lost control, striking the left side of Bryan’s vehicle, causing “moderate” damage to both vehicles, according to the report. One passenger rode in the Trail Blazer. Bryan was also alone.

No injuries were reported.

Johnson said the Bowling Green Police Department handled the incident report, rather than WKUPD, to avoid a conflict of interest.
