WKU quarterback James Mauro announced on Twitter Monday that he plans to transfer.

The redshirt sophomore wrote a letter to Hilltopper fans and released it via Twitter. In the letter, Mauro stated he has received “interest and offers from numerous D-1, Ivy League, top national Juco’s and great lower division programs.”

Mauro played in three games for WKU, his most memorable coming Sept. 29 against Arkansas State. Replacing injured starter Kawaun Jakes, Mauro led the Toppers from a 13-0 deficit to complete 8-of-12 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown in the 26-13 win over the Red Wolves.

The transfer of Mauro leaves WKU with two quarterbacks on the current roster with junior Brandon Doughty and redshirt Sophomore Damarcus Smith.

WKU also has a commitment from quarterback Todd Porter, a senior from O’Fallon High School in Illinois who signed a letter of intent on national signing day. The Toppers have also received a verbal commitment from Nelson Fishback out of Butte Community College in California.
