The WKU softball team split its doubleheader with North Texas Saturday at the WKU Softball Complex but the Sunday tiebreaker was canceled in the fourth inning due to inclement weather.

WKU (17-10, 6-2 Sun Belt) fell to North Texas by a score of 8-1 in the first game of Saturday.

Junior pitcher Emily Rousseau pitched the majority of the game, allowing nine hits while striking out 10.

Sophomore infielder Preslie Cruce brought in sophomore infielder Shawna Sadler for the only Lady Topper run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

North Texas hit a leadoff home run in the top of the sixth inning and followed in the top of the seventh with a grand slam.

The Lady Toppers went on to win the second game of the doubleheader 4-3.

Senior pitcher Mallore Sulaski started in the circle for WKU and allowed just three runs while striking out three.

With WKU trailing in the bottom of the second, Sulaski nailed a two-run homer over the right wall to give the Lady Toppers a 2-1 lead.

After a wild pitch scored Sadler, Sulaski went on to score another run in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 4-1.

North Texas went on to score two more runs but Rousseau came in for the save to give WKU a 4-3 win.

Sulaski was in the circle yet again for the Lady Toppers on Sunday as WKU posted eight runs on four hits in the first inning.

The Lady Toppers have a rematch with No. 21 Kentucky on Tuesday at the WKU Softball Complex.
