Lady Toppers split doubleheader against Bowling Green State

The WKU Softball team (9-6) hosted Bowling Green State for a doubleheader on Wednesday at the WKU Softball Complex.

The Lady Toppers began the mid-week doubleheader by outhitting BGSU by five and taking a 3-1 victory.

Junior pitcher Emily Rousseau led the way for the Lady Toppers in the circle as she set a new career-high in strikeouts with 12 while allowing only one hit.

Senior outfielder Shelby Taylor, junior infielder Amanda Thomas and sophomore infielder Preslie Cruce all tallied RBIs for the Lady Toppers. Senior pitcher/infielder Mallorie Sulaski went two-for-two for WKU.

WKU scored a run in the first, fourth, and fifth inning and allowed just one run in the sixth from BGSU.

The Lady Toppers went on to lose BGSU in the second game of the doubleheader 8-6 to fall to 9-6 on the season.

Sophomore pitcher Janna Scheff was on the mound for WKU and allowed eight hits and while striking out three.

Senior centerfielder Katrina Metoyer led the way for the Lady Toppers on offense going three-for-four with four RBI. Metoyer and Cruce each scored two runs.

The Lady Toppers quickly built a sizeable lead in the first inning scoring four runs. BGSU then responded in the second with five runs. The Lady Toppers tied the game at six heading into the sixth inning but allowed two more runs in the sixth and fell to BGSU 8-6 in the second game of the doubleheader.

WKU heads to Lafayette, La. to take on No. 15 Louisiana-Lafayette in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single matchup on Sunday.
