Lady Toppers hit stride in win over North Texas

The Lady Toppers proved to be on the right track Thursday with a 76-62 Sun Belt Conference victory at North Texas.

Prior to the game, coach Michelle Clark-Heard said that teams needed to hit their stride near the end of January and the beginning of February.

Thursday’s win against North Texas (9-14, 8-6 SBC) suggests that the Lady Toppers are doing just that.

WKU (17-5, 10-3 SBC) finished the first half with a 44-29 half time lead – it’s largest first half lead of the year.

The Lady Toppers shoot 19-of-32 from the field at a 59.4 percent clip while holding North Texas to 29.6 percent from the field.

That hot start gave the Lady Toppers the cushion they needed to pull of their second straight Sun Belt conference victory.

WKU’s “big three” – sophomore forward Chastity Gooch, sophomore guard Alexis Govan and junior guard Bianca McGee – combined for 58 points.

Junior guard Chaney Means also filled up the stat sheet off the bench with six points, seven assists and four rebounds.

The Lady Toppers will return home and take on Arkansas State (12-11, 9-5 SBC) in Diddle Arena this Saturday.

WKU lost its first game against Arkansas State 63-58.
