After opening the season with a win and a loss Friday, WKU finished weekend play Saturday with a 5-1 win over Lipscomb before falling 1-0 to host Mississippi State.

Senior pitcher Mallorie Sulaski led the way on the mound for WKU (2-2) in all seven innings against Lipscomb. Sulaski threw 106 pitches and allowed only one run on two hits.

Junior outfielder Kelsie Mattox, who was selected to the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team, led the Lady Topper offense with two hits, a run, and an RBI. Seven different Lady Toppers contributed to the nine overall hits.

Junior pitcher Emily Rousseau managed to give up just two hits and one run coming in the second inning against Mississippi State, but that was the difference as the host team beat the Lady Toppers 1-0.

MSU pitcher Allison Owen gave up just one hit coming from WKU’s Mattox.

The Lady Toppers return to action Friday at Buchanon Park in Bowling Green to host the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic.
