Jakes, Vasquez added to basketball roster

Hours after the clock ran out in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, senior quarterback Kawaun Jakes and senior wide receiver Marcus Vasquez in in uniform for the Toppers once again.

Jakes and Vasquez have officially been added to the WKU basketball roster. Both are eligible to play immediately.

While neither has played for the Topper basketball team in their time at WKU, both have a strong high school basketball background.

Jakes was the Class 4A Player of the Year as a senior at St. Augustine High School in Fla., though he missed much of the season after playing as starting quarterback for the football team at the start of the year.

Vasquez, who attended Otay Ranch High School in Chula Vista, Calif., averaged 10.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists as a senior while playing football in the fall.

Jakes and Vasquez, both guaards, will be able to take the court as early as Thursday against Florida International.
