LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Respect gone for WKU administration

Mahendra Prasad

For a long time, I had had the greatest respect for Western Kentucky University, especially since a medical literature scholar whose work I had long admired, Mary E. Pitts, was a professor there. However, the hiring of the ethically challenged Bobby Petrino has made me question this respect. I will probably continue to hold the faculty and student body in great esteem. But the administration, no.

Currently, I am a PhD candidate at the University of California, Berkeley. After I graduate, I am hoping to return to work at a school near my home state of Tennessee. Given my desire not to work for an administration I can’t respect, an administration that puts football victories ahead of basic Judeo-Christian ethics, I don’t see myself applying for jobs at WKU. And I certainly won’t recommend it to any friends also considering research and teaching jobs at WKU.
