Just days before WKU opens its 2012-2013 season, a coaching staff change has taken place.

Curtis Turley, who would’ve entered his first season as a full-time WKU assistant after spending last season as director of operations, has resigned his position from the coaching staff.

Coach Michelle Clark-Heard said in a press conference Wednesday that Turley resigned for “another opportunity that came about that was a good situation for his family.”

Current director of operations and former Lady Topper, ShaRae Mansfield, will fill in as the new assistant coach.

“We’ll just make do with what we have and work together,” Heard said.

Graduate Assistant Laura Terry will become the new director of operations.

Last season was Turley’s first with WKU after spending 32 seasons in the Kentucky high school boys’ basketball coaching ranks.

WKU plays its first exhibition Friday night in Diddle Arena against Harding University.
