Eckhardt drops suit against WKU

A civil suit filed by Amy Eckhardt, former director of the Office for Scholar Development, has been settled.

On June 29, 2011, Eckhardt filed a civil complaint suing WKU for violating the Whistleblower Act, Open Records Act, invasion of privacy and libel. That suit was dropped by Eckhardt, and an agreement was signed yesterday.

During Friday’s Board of Regents meeting, Deborah Wilkins, WKU general counsel, said Eckhardt’s lawyers contacted the university about three weeks ago to drop the charges.

“I’ve never had that happen in my career here,” Wilkins said.

Wilkins said the university did not offer any money to Eckhardt for a settlement.

“Normally these things happen when certain payments are involved,” Wilkins said.

The Herald will have more on this story as it develops.
