Editor’s note, Feb. 6, 2018: Court documents provided to the Herald from BOAM Law firm show Sheldon’s record was expunged on April 5, 2016. This has been attached to the article. The Herald does not remove stories, but does make strides to amend articles when proper documentation is provided.

Sophomore guard Spence Sheldon was arrested early Thursday morning on charges of public intoxication.

Sheldon, 19, was arrested on Russellville Road by Bowling Green Police and booked into the Warren County Jail at 1:41 a.m.

He was released at 6:16 a.m.

Sheldon must pay an alcohol intoxication fine in the next 14 days or a warrant will be issued for his arrest, a Warren County Jail spokesperson said.

A WKU athletics spokesman said the athletic department has no comment on the arrest.

Sheldon, a walk-on who played in high school at Warren Central High School and (Bradenton, Fla.,) IMG Academy, played in seven games as a freshman in 2011-2012, grabbing a rebound against Virginia Commonwealth on Nov. 23.

Editor’s Note — The Herald Ethics Guide states: “Persons who freely choose to become public celebrities or public servants should expect a greater level of scrutiny of their life than a private person.” The Herald feels that student athletes meet this criteria, making criminal charges newsworthy.
