LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Don’t use double standards in anger about Chick-Fil-A

Keaton Brownstead

Can’t a person enjoy a great southern-style chicken sandwich without taking part in a moral-ethical debate? I mean, people still enjoy iPhones knowing very well the Foxconn incidents of suicide, people still buy cheap diamonds aware it was probably mined by a slave somewhere in Africa, and women still shop at Victoria Secret even after they got caught buying cotton from child slavers in Burkina Faso. Using a company’s product is in no way wholly condoning its beliefs or practices. If we are going to get up in arms over the ‘injustice’ of Chick-Fil-A, we better take a serious look at how we approach corporations across the board. There’s no room for double standards.
