WKU will be represented in the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

Claire Donahue, a former WKU standout, qualified for the Olympics by finishing second in the 100-meter butterfly finals on Tuesday night at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb.

She finished the race in 57.57 seconds, trailing only Dana Vollmer in the eight-swimmer race.

Donahue and Vollmer will both represent the United States in London.

“I still can’t believe it,” Donahue told NBC during a post-race interview. “I looked up and saw No. 2 and that’s all I was looking for. I’m just so happy. There’s not words.”

The 2012 Olympic games will mark Donahue’s first as a competitor.

The Lenoir City, Tenn., native finished second in the nation in the 100 fly during her senior year at WKU in 2011.

The Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics will take place on July 27.
