WKU alumna Claire Donahue has advanced to Tuesday night’s U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials finals.
The former WKU standout swam the 100-meter butterfly in 58.53 seconds in the first heat of the semifinals on Monday night at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb.
That time was enough for Donahue to tie Lexington native Kelsey Floyd for sixth overall and clinch a spot in Tuesday’s finals (7 p.m., NBC).
The top two finishers Tuesday advance to the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
Dana Vollmer led all competitors in the semifinals with a time of 56.42 seconds, which broke an American record.
Competing against Donahue, Floyd and Vollmer on Tuesday night will be Lexington native Elaine Breeden, Kathleen Hersey, Natalie Coughlin, Caroline McElhany and Christine Magnuson.
