Statement from Derrick Gordon on transferring from WKU

Herald Staff

“I would like to thank the coaching staff, my teammates and Hilltopper Nation for the incredible support I have received since I committed to WKU three years ago and especially during this past season. This decision is not something I took lightly, and it came after many discussions with my family and the coaching staff. I have gone back-and-forth with this for many months.

It is important to me that my family be able to see me play more frequently and for me to be able to visit everyone, including my brother, more regularly, and I believe it is best for me to continue my playing career closer to home.

Coach Harper and the rest of the coaching staff gave me a tremendous opportunity here at WKU, and I have nothing but appreciation and respect for their guidance both on and off the court since I arrived in Bowling Green.

My Hilltopper teammates mean the world to me, and I know that what happened over the last month of this season is just the start for WKU basketball with this group of guys, Coach Harper and the rest of the staff, and I will be rooting for them every step of the way.

I will always be grateful for my time in Bowling Green, and I will always hold Western Kentucky University, the relationships I developed there and the WKU faithful close to my heart.”
