WKU quarterback Damarcus Smith must sit out the remainder of spring practice and the entire fall semester, WKU confirmed to the Herald on Friday.

Smith, a former Rivals.com four-star recruit from Louisville Seneca High School and Central Florida signee, enrolled at WKU this semester.

He had previously been participating in the Toppers’ spring practices while WKU waited for Smith to be cleared by the NCAA eligibility center.

Head Coach Willie Taggart’s next media availability will occur on Saturday afternoon after a team scrimmage.

The ruling on Smith now leaves rising senior Kawaun Jakes and redshirt freshman James Mauro as the team’s only two healthy quarterbacks.

Rising sophomore Brandon Doughty has not taken full scrimmage reps this spring, as he recovers from an anterior cruciate ligament tear.
