Bowl for Kids’ Sake, an event hosted by the Big Brothers Big Sisters association, will be taking place this Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Kentucky’s largest annual fundraising event, which provides half of their annual operating budget, according to the Big Brother Big Sister website.

The money collected from the event will support local volunteer recruitment efforts, as well as provide professional staffs that screen volunteers before they are matched, perform monthly monitoring of each match’s progress and organize group events.

The event will be a “Totally Awesome 80’s” theme, and all teams are encouraged to dress to the theme. Photos will be taken of the teams and posted to the agency’s Facebook page. The team photo with the most votes will win a pizza party from Lost River Pizza Company, according to the Big Brother Big Sister website.

In order to register for the event, each of the five members of the team must raise at least $30 to bowl at the event. By doing this, each member will receive one complimentary hour of bowling, food and drinks and a chance to win door prizes.

“Participants can still register this week,” said Maria Fisher, special event director at Big Brother Big Sister. “However, they do need to contact me ASAP via phone or e-mail to sign up for a bowling time.”

Anyone still wishing to register should contact Fisher by noon on Thursday for that night’s event, and by noon on Friday for either of the weekend events.

“The event is open to anyone in the community,” Fisher said. “This is the first time we have had the Thursday night event at Southern Lanes.  We already have several WKU teams signed up to bowl that night but we would love to have more students come out — especially for the later times 9 p.m.-midnight.”

Bowl for Kids’ Sake will take place at Southern Lanes on Thursday from 7-12 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sunday from 12:30 – 4 p.m.
