Lady Toppers back in action against No. 15 Texas Tech
December 21, 2011
It’s been 10 days since WKU beat Florida International 65-48 on Dec. 11.
After a week and a half without a game, the Lady Toppers (3-8) will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night, taking on No. 15 Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
The Lady Raiders have started the year 9-0, making them one of just six undefeated teams in the Associated Press Top 25.
Texas Tech’s wins this season have included a 70-66 victory in Lubbock over then No. 16 Penn State on Dec. 3 and a 70-64 win over Illinois on Saturday in Chicago.
The Lady Raiders are led in points and on the boards by forward Kierra Mallard (14.6 points per game, 10.4 rebounds per game).
Texas Tech has also gotten solid contributions from guard Casey Morris (10.9 ppg, 3.2 assists per game) and guard Monique Smalls (7.7 ppg, team-high 5.2 apg).
WKU will be looking for its first road win of the year after starting the season 0-5 in games played on opponents’ floors.
The Lady Toppers have lost each of those games by double-digits.
WKU has been led this year by senior forwards LaTeira Owens (10.6 ppg, 7.6 rpg) and Keshia Mosley (7.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg).
The Lady Toppers will once again be without the services of freshman guard Danay Fothergill as she recovers from a broken foot sustained in November.
