Capital campaign on track to exceed goal
December 14, 2011
The last full year of WKU’s New Century of Spirit campaign is coming to a close.
Kathryn Costello, vice president for Development and Alumni Relations said that as of Oct. 31, the campaign total had reached $192.7 million.
This included a recent $2 million estate commitment that will support the Honors College. Costello said the donor names are still confidential and will be announced at a future date.
The New Century of Spirit campaign began in 2005 and ends June 30, 2012. The campaign goal is $200 million.
President Gary Ransdell said the campaign is going quite well, especially considering the economic environment of the past few years.
“We are most confident that we will blow past our $200 million goal by June 30,” he said. “We are focusing on a lot of estate gifts and gifts of appreciation property at this time.”
Costello said she expects many more gifts to come in the month of December.
According to financial data from WKU, the months of October through December have historically seen the highest number of gifts going to the university.
“People are looking at the calendar year end,” Costello said. “For those people that are used to giving money away and deducting that on their taxes, between now and the end of December is the time to do it.”
