LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Faculty’s gripe over Taggart’s raise is unreasonable

Bob Rennegarbe

The hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth coming from the Faculty Senate at Western over the raise for head football coach Willie Taggart is really all for naught. It’s not as if money is being taken away from either their salaries or programs to fund football or any other athletic endeavor on The Hill. They are in no way being penalized by this action. However, they want all to believe that education is suffering because money is being spent on athletics. Don’t buy it, folks. The Faculty Senate is infamous for stomping their feet and holding their breath until they get what they want. It’s been repeated too many times at Western in the thirty three years I’ve been associated with the university.
