SI.com named two WKU players to its All-America teams on Tuesday.

Senior running back Bobby Rainey earned second-team All-America honors, while freshman kickoff returner John Evans was named an honorable mention All-American.

It was the fourth All-America honor for Rainey in his career. Rainey made the SI.com team for the second straight year.

Rainey was named SI.com honorable mention in 2010 and has been named to the second-team Walter Camp and third-team Yahoo! All-American teams this year.

Meanwhile the SI.com honor is the first for Evans.

Rainey, who was also named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, ranks second nationally, averaging 141.2 rushing yards per game in 2011.

He broke WKU records for both single-season (1,695) and career (4,542) rushing yardage yards while helping lead the Toppers to a 7-5 record.

Rainey joined Oregon’s LaMichael James on the All-America second team.

Alabama’s Trent Richardson and Wisconsin’s Montee Ball were named the first-team running backs.

Evans earned honorable mention All-America honors after finishing second in the nation with a 32.2 yards per kickoff return average.

Season highlights for the WKU freshman included a 90-yard return for a touchdown against Middle Tennessee State and a 79-yard return against Louisiana-Monroe.

Both returns helped the Toppers earn Sun Belt road wins.

Clemson’s Sammy Watkins and and Arkansas’ Joe Adams were named first- and second-team kick returners, respectively.
