Another weekend, another Sun Belt Conference sweep for the Lady Toppers volleyball team.

WKU (27-3, 14-1 Sun Belt Conference) beat Troy in three sets on Saturday for the second time this season, closing out another 2-0 weekend for the Lady Toppers and setting the stage for their final regular season match next weekend.

Head Coach Travis Hudson said while his team wasn’t perfect, the weekend was another important step for WKU this season.

“We played well,” he said. “We could have played better but in the end, it’s always exciting to get a couple of wins on the road.”

Junior outside hitter Jordyn Skinner led the Lady Toppers in kills in both matches over the weekend, putting up 11 against Troy on Saturday.

Sophomore setter Melanie Stutsman also played a big role in the offense against Troy, recording 10 kills and 37 assists while posting a match-high .667 hitting percentage.

The Lady Toppers’ defense was led by Skinner, who had 14 digs, and sophomore defensive specialist Ashley Potts, who posted 13 digs on Saturday.

Skinner said the Lady Toppers played some of their best volleyball of the season this weekend.

“I’m very pleased,” she said. “Right now we’re playing well all over the court. You can see we’re really coming together.”

WKU hasn’t lost a set since the Cincinnati match on Oct. 18 and has swept its last six opponents. The Lady Toppers lead the nation in total wins at this point in the season with 27.

The wins for WKU this weekend set the stage for a match against Middle Tennessee State next Friday.

Both teams have one loss in the conference, with MTSU accounting for WKU’s only Sun Belt loss this season, and the winner will walk away regular-season Sun Belt champion.

Hudson said the Lady Toppers are going to prepare for the upcoming match like they would for any other match this season.

“We’re going to come into practice this week and continue to do what we do,” he said. “There’s nothing extraordinary we need to do to win the match.”
