After playing a crucial role in the WKU defense in

over the weekend against South Alabama and Troy, junior outside

hitter Jordyn Skinner was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive

Player of the Week on Monday.

It’s the fifth time this year a member of the team

has won the award and the second time Skinner has earned it in her

career.

She led the team in digs in both matches, recording

12 against South Alabama and 14 against Troy, while leading the

Lady Toppers in kills in each match as well.

Skinner was named NCAA Player of the Week at one

point earlier this year and is ranked ninth in the Sun Belt

averaging 3.48 digs per set, the highest rate of a non-libero in

the conference.

Her efforts over the weekend helped WKU (27-3, 14-1

Sun Belt Conference) pick up two more wins and rise in the latest

rankings. The Lady Toppers were ranked No. 28 in the American

Volleyball Coaches Association poll released on Monday.

WKU will play its final match of the season against

Middle Tennessee State on Friday. The Lady Toppers and MTSU are

tied at the top of the East division and the match will determine

the Sun Belt regular season champion.
