Injury Update: Beard questionable, Clendenin out for North Texas game

Ryan Beard will be a game-time decision for WKU on Saturday against North Texas.

The senior safety sustained a shoulder injury last week in the Toppers’ 42-9 loss to No. 1 Louisiana State.

Beard underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed the injury was a sprained shoulder.

His backup, sophomore Kiante Young, replaced him in the first half and recorded a team-high 11 tackles.

Other personnel updates:

—Senior defensive end Jared Clendenin will miss his second consecutive game on Saturday after breaking his pinkie toe in the fourth quarter of an Nov. 5 win over Florida International.

Last week Head Coach Willie Taggart said WKU’s defensive captain may not play again this season.

Clendenin still performed captain’s duties against LSU, using crutches to come out to midfield for the pre-game coin flip.

—Taggart said freshman running back John Evans will likely play against the Mean Green on Saturday after missing the LSU loss.

Taggart said Evans “tweaked a knee” against FIU.

—Junior wide receiver Dexter Haynes and sophomore wide receiver Courtney Dalcourt have both been reinstated to the team. They were suspended on Oct. 29 for an unspecified violation of team rules.
