WKU’s regular season Sun Belt Conference dominance has carried over to the postseason, at least for its first match.

The No. 1 seeded Lady Toppers took care of business in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference in Miami on Thursday, beating Troy in three sets for the third time this season.

Head Coach Travis Hudson said the team met his expectations in the match.

“We went out there and did what we needed to do,” he said. “Troy played the best we’ve seen them play in three matches this year and I thought we did well in taking that in stride and responding.”

The Lady Toppers were led on offense by junior outside hitter and Sun Belt Player of the Year Jordyn Skinner, who racked up 13 kills in three sets. Senior middle hitter Lindsay Williams added 12 to WKU’s total of 54 kills.

Sophomore defensive specialist and Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Ashley Potts played a big role in the win with 16 digs. Skinner also recorded 10 digs.

By winning in the first round, the Lady Toppers will move on to the semifinals on Friday at 6:30 p.m. against either Denver or Florida International.

Hudson said the Lady Toppers should do well in the rest of the tournament if they can keep up their high level of play.

“I just want us to continue to play how we have all year,” Hudson said. “We should be in good shape if we do.”
