Statement from Director of Athletics Ross Bjork: 

As I said this past Sunday, each disciplinary circumstance is unique and we handled Coach Lance Guidry’s situation in the manner we felt was best for our program and most importantly, our student-athletes.  In the case of Coach Guidry, we took his actions with great disappointment but also with a stern message of discipline and zero tolerance moving forward.  His fine/donation of $4,500 and 10 hours of community service are equal to one-month’s net pay, and he will lose his university leased vehicle.  Plus, he must participate in an employee assistance program in addition to other sanctions and the legal process.

I understand the sensitive and serious nature of Lance’s actions and I want the WKU community to know that we are committed to a transparent program who welcomes communication of all types.  I also recognize that most employees, including University personnel, are not subject to these type of sanctions and disclosure and our departmental disciplinary measures are typically handled internally and confidentially.

However, after discussions this week with Coach Taggart and Coach Guidry, we all agree, in this instance, to release the disciplinary measures for Coach Guidry.  All of us who work in college athletics understand the level of scrutiny our positions come with and Coach Guidry agreed to release the plan which has already begun.  We all believe integrity and character are essential core values to our program, and we support Lance moving forward.  Our focus remains on providing the best resources and environment for our players for the remainder of the 2011 season.
